Städte auf dem Land

Following the Roman occupation, kings, religious authorities and local lords instigated the building, consolidation and development of many towns and villages. Over the centuries, the wars died down and, slowly, life got back to normal.

More and more thoroughfares were built and gradually, with the roads and rivers, and later on with the advent of the railways, craftspeople and peasants founded these trading crossroads. These places of human and commercial exchange, built by the people, still remain today. These countryside towns are, more than ever, the nerve centres of daily life. This is where people come to do their shopping; the markets are lively and it is here that the festive and cultural soul flourishes. Thanks to the existence of these homely towns, there is always life about the place.
